The Beginning

In the very beginning, there was the shortwave radio to bridge the NASA astronauts at the International Space Station to families and friends on Earth.

In the beginning, there was also an electric car.  One year, the car was even pink.  That was the year that Sacred Hearts Academy won the annual Hawaiian Electric Electron Marathon, and they were the first all-girls team to do so.  See article.

After an pre-engineering course was mapped, Academy students tried out a milk carton race.  They came in 3rd in 2004. See article.

Later though, the young women in Introduction to Engineering tried out underwater robotics … with Academy students competing in the Hawaii Underwater Robot Challenge. See article.

While Sacred Hearts Academy has gradually integrated more math, science and technology into its curriculum, the STEM areas came to fruition with the creation of the Lancer Robotics program which developed Robotics courses, now offered at three levels for high school students.  Currently, the robotics curriculum is introduced at the fourth grade level at the Academy.  Plans have already been made to include the third grade with the coming school year.

While some private schools are struggling with a sagging economy, Sacred Hearts Academy remains committed to educating young women to make a difference by focusing on the STEM fields. See article.
