Story of 2008

Eager to start building robots, we grabbed tools left from the electric car years but soon realized that we didn’t have a home.  Fortunately, Okada Trucking, graciously provided us with a trailer.

When the Admissions Director asked us to be part of the Open House “visits”, we instantly said yes because we loved showing others what we were learning.  We really enjoyed our new space.

Since the trailer was cozy, we did much of the cutting, gluing, and painting outside.  Fortunately, the rest of the student-body was behind us, so sharing space was not a problem.

Regional Competitions

We decided to compete at the Wisconsin Regional and realized we would need to ship our robot.

With a bit of fear, we crated and shipped our robot.  Mr. Debo spent much of the night before sleeping it.  We didn’t want anything to happen to it.  When the FedEx truck came, we watched the driver very carefully.  Our robot was placed safely inside the crate for the long journey.

At the Wisconsin Regional, we learned that there is a lot of singing and dancing that happens.  We had fun and made tons of friends, but we worked hard in the competitions.  There we received the All Star Rookie Award. We were very excited.

Wisconsin Regional All Star Rookie Award:

Celebrates the rookie team exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology.

Glad to be in warmer weather, we also competed at the Hawaii Regional, and we received the Rookie Inspiration Award.  We were also a Regional Finalist which meant we qualified to compete in the Championships in Atlanta.
